Mark Plackett books his place at the English Schools after finishing fourth at the Surrey Schools Champs Holly Haile (U17) notched a bronze medal at the Surrey Schools Champs at Priory Park. Peter Chambers (U20) on the way to silver at the Surrey Schools XC Champs at Priory Park Emily Howe Josie Kavanagh Peter Chambers struck silver in the showpiece senior boy’s event, clocking 23:07 for the undulating 6.5km course. Mark Plackett (fourth, 23:36) followed soon after with a well timed run, with Dom Nolan (fifth, 23:47) in close contention. The trio have now booked their places to represent Surrey at the English Schools championships in Somerset in March. The club’s other medal came courtesy of Holly Haile who grabbed bronze in the hotly contested inter-girl’s race. Stevie Lawrence also put herself in the frame to join her training partner at the English Schools after finishing eighth in the same race in the 69-strong field. Further top fifteen finishes were found in Josh Haasz (IB, 11th), Patrick Lucas (IB, 12th) and Charlie Brackenborough (JB, 11th). Omar Harhara (JB, 21st), Josie Kavanagh (U15G, 25th), Ellie McCormack (U13G, 24th), Ben Rackett and Abbie Burrett (U13G, 27th) were also in action, while Emily Howe, Atlanta Drummond, Naomi Carty and Cora Sexton grouped well in the junior girl’s race. Well done to you all. Officials from the Harriers who helped run the event on the day included Mike & Nicola Fleet, Martin Rowe, Rob Elsworthy, Lorraine Gomes and Caroline Powell . Elsewhere, five Harriers could be found at five seperate ParkRuns. Eight-time winner of Lloyd ParkRun Sam Clayton finished runner-up as he continues his injury rehab. Neil Aikman finished 20th in a massive 338-strong field at Bromley, while new recruit Simon Loughran was 12th at Nonsuch Park. Norman Hemming notched his 76th event at Roundshaw Downs and David Warren 's bid to become the first senior man at the club to reach 100 ParkRuns continued at apace completing his 89th event at Banstead Woods. | |
