Croydon Harriers enjoyed three top ten’s and a further six top 20 individual finishes at the Surrey County Championships at Denbies Vineyard on Saturday.

Competing against the best in the county, Dom Nolan (20:46, fourth) and Peter Chambers (21:03, fifth) led the way in the under-17 men’s 6.1km race. The pair have booked their place to represent Surrey at the March’s National inter-counties as a result.

Josh Haasz (13:59, seventh) also impressed in the under-15 boys event in the 71 strong field.

Further top 20 finishes came courtesy of Charlie Brackenborough (U13 boys, 16th), Omar Harhara (U13 boys, 18th), Josie Kavanagh (U13 girls, 19th), Stevie Lawrence (U15 girls, 15th), Holly Haile (U15 girls, 17th) and Patrick Lucas (U17 men, 19th).

In the showpiece men’s event, Croydon finished 14th out of 26 clubs over the gruelling 7.5mile course. Andy Simms (44th, 44:42) led the charge, with Colin Oxlade (88th, 48:23), Neil Aikman (121st, 50:41), Martin Rowe (130th, 51:25) and Andy Del Nevo (154th, 52:52) completing the team.

Meanwhile, over thirty Croydon sprinters began their indoor season campaigns at the SLAN open event at Sutton Arena.

Five overall runners-up spots were found in Ashleigh Clarke (U15 girls, 7.88s), Eleanor Smith Hahn (U17W, 7.94s), Daniel Luke (Under-15 boys, 7.59s), Chanice Gordon (Under-13 girls) and Elliot Bailey (Under-13 boys, 8.49s).

In the hotly contested senior men’s category, Omar Dixon returned to the fold with a bang after a four year absence clocking 6.91s in the 60m, and notched a narrow win over Olympian Conrad Williams in the process.

Elliot Safo (7.00s, ninth) and Oweka Wanogho (7.04s, tenth) also placed inside the top ten.
