Eight young Croydon athletes represented Surrey with distinction in an eight-sided U17 encounter at Stevenage.
At the Sunday Inter County event, Omari Carr-Miller won a thrilling 400m in 50.6 with two others hot on his heels. Cameron Smith won the B 200m in 22.6, a tenth slower than the A winner, and third-placed 100m hurdler Joe Yarde was a mere tenth adrift of the winner. Off the track, triple jumpers Javari Cameron (13.02m) and Ejiro Avwunu (12.84m) finished third and first in the A and B competitions. Thrower Faraz Rafi successfully confirmed his versatility taking A third in the discus at 39.66m as well as B third in the shot (10.94m) and hammer (28.94m). Kamilla Morgan threw 30.65m for fifth in the javelin. Wimbledon 5km Croydon Harriers’ endurance squad completed their Surrey Road League campaign with their best result of the season at the Wimbledon 5km Dash on Sunday, writes Matthew Kiernan. The Harriers finished a solid 12th out of the 33 competing teams, a result which should see them finish in the top 20 in the league overall. David White spearheaded Croydon’s efforts with a 14th place finish over the undulating course, crossing the line in 17 minutes and four seconds. Andy Del Nevo (50th, 18:56) and David Brown (73rd, 20:19) completed the scoring trio, while there was non-scoring support from Keith Brown (21:56) who was fifth in the M55 category. PRESS REPORT | |
