Oweka walks to his place on the relay for the final leg...and for the final time at an NJAL :-( Leah in the javelin Kariym Irving cleared a new lifetime best of 1.95m in the high jump Miles Casey in the shot putt Seven A-string wins and a further two B-string victories showed Croydon are than capable of mixing it with the best in this division, but a lack numbers is currently proving the deciding factor. Elliot Safo, who is ranked number one in the UK for the U17 long jump, was named athlete of the match after he took the spoils in the event with a 6.91m effort. Elsewhere, Decathlete Kariym Irving continued his rapid development with four event wins, with lifetime bests in the 110m hurdles (15.9secs), high jump (1.95m) and shot putt (13.46m) reinforcing his 44.50m winning throw in the discus. In the sprints Andre Gibbs took the 100m B race honors in 11.5secs, while colleague Oweka Wanogho bowed out of the U20 ranks in style with a 2nd in the 100m A race and topped the 200m standings with a 22.5secs clocking. The trio of Irving, Gibbs and Wanogho then combined with Javari Cameron to cross the line in 44.2secs in the 4x100m to secure victory via a photo finish. Cameron then recovered to finish 2nd in the triple jump with a 12.91m jump while there were also good performances from Faraz Rafi (40.27m, discus), Miles Casey (11.36m, shot putt), Leah Anderson (24.43m, discus), Serena Phillips (9.32m, triple jump), Davine Dubidad (22.49m, discus). PHOTOS From Matt the manager: "A special thanks to all you guys who have supported the league this year, greatly appreciated as always. Also thanks to the officials of Don Webb, Kim Thornton, JP Lamarque, Carol Munns and Caroline Powell who have helped massively this season. And one last thank you and well done must go to Oweka Wanogho who has been a star in this league for us for the past four seasons, and bowed out in style today with a blistering last leg to help win the 4x100m by a whisker." | |
